At The Social Work Collective, we understand the challenges local authorities face in developing and retaining newly qualified social workers (NQSWs). Many social work academies, especially those that are newly formed or developing, are working hard to support their ASYE social workers in building confidence and honing critical practice skills—but it’s often overwhelming.

Newly qualified social workers come from a range of backgrounds with varying placement experiences. Upon entering busy local authorities, they’re tasked with managing cases, shadowing experienced staff, reporting to managers, and balancing the requirements to pass their ASYE. This can feel like a juggling act, and with many teams lacking advanced practitioners or practice improvement leads, support can be limited.

That’s where The Social Work Collective comes in.

Empowering Newly Qualified Social Workers

The Social Work Collective is a 12 month programme of masterclasses designed to complement the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment. With a different skills focus each month, this brings together CPD and practice tools for new social workers alongside their first 12 months as a social worker.

Live monthly training masterclasses have been developed to cover the skills required to practice as a children’s social worker, equipping social workers with the knowledge they need to fulfill their competencies, in an accessible and interactive way.

Monthly masterclasses run on the last Wednesday of every month as midday sessions, for 60 minutes.

The full recordings are available for members to catch up via a password protected webpage.

01

Who is The Social Work Collective for?

Local Authorities who want to develop and retain their newly qualified social workers

New and Developing Local Authority social work Academies who want their ASYE social workers to have increased confidence in their practice skills

02

How can this benefit Local Authorities?

Individual managers care about their new staff, but may not always have the time to sit with them and explain the ‘basics’ of legislation, process and policy. Masterclasses ensure that this is covered so supervision can be utilized to support the new social worker and focus on specific cases.

This is cost effective training that delivers clear impact in a short period of time. The recording catch ups allow learning to accessible for social workers who need to revisit this throughout the year.

For newly formed and developing academies, this programme fills the gap of training requirements whilst you build out the foundations you need to support new social workers.

03

How is this different to supervision?

Masterclasses are not supervision. This is CPD training that focuses on skills and anonymous scenarios. As an independent trainer I am clear with new social workers that I cannot give supervision or practice advice on individual cases. I use training to look at case studies that support new social workers with their own cases, enabling them to use supervision to focus on case specific issues.

04

Can I choose different time access?

Local Authorities can purchase access to one month masterclass. This gives access to up to 20 social workers to join the live session and receive 48 hours access to the recording. Additional recording access can be purchased.

Local Authorities can purchase a 12 month access for a cohort of up to 30 social workers. This gives access to monthly live masterclasses and recordings of all masterclasses

All masterclasses topics are available as half day and full day training sessions that can be delivered online or in person. If you are interested in training exclusive to your local authority please use the enquiry form below to book a call with me.

05

How does this differ to individual membership?

The Social Work Collective is available to individual social workers. The individual membership includes access to a private facebook community and access to a CPD learning hub of resources in addition to the masterclasses.

Organisation memberships do not include access the facebook group, for confidentiality and privacy reasons.

Additional access to the CPD learning hub of bitesize resources can be purchased in addition to your organisational membership.
